Is It Too Late...
... to wish you a very Happy New Year?! 2010 is here! Wow, can you believe it? Allen and I graduated high school in 1975, and back then, the year 1990 sounded like hundreds of years away. Time really does fly!
When the calendar flipped over at 12:01, January 1st, we were once again given a brand new year, a chance to look at everything as new and fresh again. I'm sure each one of us has certain goals we want to achieve this year, and hopefully they'll have a Kingdom-cause to them. We sing a particular song in our church and one line says, "Everything I am for your Kingdom's cause." Every time we sing that song that line challenges my heart so greatly. Is my entire life about Kingdom business? The truth is, folks, that everyday of our lives there are people around us that need a Kingdom representative... a person full of hope and encouragement that actually has the goods to back it up! There are people that come into our lives for just brief moments: at the bank, the grocery store, the car wash, the dry cleaners, an elevator... all that need a touch of hope. The challenge of my heart this year is to live a more generous life...

Leadership Is Serving Others
I want us to look at one of the most radical verses in the Bible. Jesus said in Matthew 20:26 & 28 (Living Bible) "Anyone wanting to be a leader among you must be your servant. And if you want to be right at the top, you must serve like a slave. Your attitude must be like My own. For I did not come to be served, but to serve." Then Luke 22:26, "But among you the one who serves best will be your leader." These two verses are the foundation for Christian leadership and life as God intended it. If you're going to be a leader, you've got to make this a part of your life. Jesus said the exact opposite of what the world says about being a leader. In the world you build a pyramid and you climb to the top. Dog-eat-dog, win by intimidation and by looking out for number one. Step on everybody else's mindset as you climb to the top.

Get That Mountain Out Of My Face
by Melissa Abrehamsen
Is there anything more frustrating than 'going around the mountain one more time'? No? Then why do so many of us make a lifestyle out of it? Is it because we are comfortable with where we are? Do we fear the unknown? Or - you gotta love this one - are we too lazy to do anything about it?
Recently, I went to a publishing network group for the first time. I should preface this by telling you that I've been a fiction writer for years and just recently had a short story published. I have several manuscripts ready to go but haven't landed the custom-tailored-agent that I've been seeking for the past two years. So, I'm at this network shin-dig, and both my editor and a fellow Safe Harbor member - who is a professional writer - don't show up. I don't know anyone in the room and no one is talking to me... at all. I head out to the porch and text my friend that I'm thinking about leaving. That's when I heard the Lord say, "Oh, we're going around this mountain again?"

Which Line Are You Dancing On?
Recently, Abi (our five year old daughter), came home from kindergarten with a new discovery on her mind. She had discovered her middle finger, and the naughtiness of using it inappropriately. I dropped my child off for school that morning, and she was blissfully unaware of the power of the middle finger, and when I got her back that evening, she had suddenly become aware of its presence in every thing she did. When she would point to which coloring book she wanted, she used her middle finger. When she was picking up her toothbrush, she used her middle finger. And when she pointed to the sky at a passing airplane, yep, you guess it. She used her favorite finger to show us the plane overhead...

One thing I believe all ministers struggle with is reconciling their goals with their calling. Paul had this problem, Elijah solved this problem, and the list goes on and on.
Let's start with Paul, the man we attribute the message of Grace to, the guy who wrote 80% of the New Testament...
